The Redland Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of running defender/midfielder Matthew McGannon for the upcoming 2019 NEAFL season.
McGannon hails from Waratah Bay in Victoria and has been an integral part of the Gippsland Power program earning representative honours with Victoria Country this year as an overage player.
He averaged 19 disposals and 6 marks for the Power and was named in the back pocket in the 2018 TAC Cup Team of the Year.
An attendee at this year’s National AFL Draft Combine McGannon finished third in the kicking test and is described as “ a good decision maker and user by hand and foot and a strong tackler”
New Bombers Coach Phil Carse said “We are thrilled to have Matt on board for the 2019 season. It will be a great challenge for him to move interstate but we believe he will thrive in our environment at senior level”
“Matt trained with us pre-Christmas, showed some real skill on the track and was well received by the group immediately”
“We believe Matt will give us plenty of run across half back and through the midfield and that the grounds and aspirational nature of the NEAFL will suit his game style”
Coming from a strong football pedigree the club looks forward to “Moose” McGannon relocating in early January with the Bombers resuming pre-season on January 14.
