As you are all aware by now the AFL – in conjunction with all State CEOs – has made a collective decision to postpone the start of the NEAFL season until May 31 as the result of the COVID-19 virus.

Our club, while disappointed, understands the decision has had to be made with the over-riding factor of protecting the health and well-being of our players, staff members and volunteers as well as their family members being of paramount importance.

A board meeting this week has led to several functions being cancelled including the Jumper Presentation and Sponsor Dinner, which had been planned for March 24 and Ladies Day, which had been set to coincide with the opening match on April 4.

Decisions on other functions will be made closer to the date, but you will all be informed as soon as they are resolved.

As you will appreciate, we are facing an unprecedented time, not only in sport, but in the domestic and global community.

We are in constant contact with the NEAFL and we continue to take advice from the State and Federal Governments as well as the relevant medical authorities including our own medical team which has already displayed great professionalism and care for our players and staff.

The club has immediately suspended training for the next two weeks.

We took the important step to invite all players and staff to an information night where everything was presented to them in an open forum.

The strong bond of support and inspirational messages from our team leaders to the playing group was heartfelt. We are extremely proud of the mature response from our playing group.

Our wonderful sponsors – the very lifeblood of the Bombers – can be assured we will be working in the best interests of our people, the community and the competition and your continued support through these tough times is greatly appreciated.

Like all businesses and organisations, we will adapt, and we will get creative.

We look forward to bringing everyone back together soon so we can share the incredible bond of football and the sense of community that has united us from the start.

We will get through this with kindness, compassion and determination.

Stay safe everyone.
